Our Story

Irie Essentials was founded by Jonathan Bennett, a young Jamaican entrepreneur who migrated to the United States at the age of eight. As the founder and CEO, Jonathan has always sought opportunities to share his culture with both his peers and the wider world. He comes from a long line of entrepreneurs, his grandfather owned an upholstery business, and his mother leads a successful commercial cleaning company. Inspired by this legacy and his family’s determination, Jonathan pursued his own entrepreneurial path.Growing up in Jamaica, Jonathan spent cherished time with his grandmother, who passed down the traditional method of making Jamaican black castor oil. This sacred practice has been preserved for generations, tracing its roots back to the trans-Atlantic slave trade, when people from West Africa carried the knowledge with them to the Americas. Learning these techniques at such a young age gave Jonathan a deep respect for heritage and authenticity.Upon moving to the United States, he noticed that many so-called “Jamaican black castor oils” on the market were processed and falsely marketed as authentic. Determined to change this, Jonathan made it his mission to provide the world with genuine authentic Jamaican black castor oil, produced in the traditional time honoredway and exported directly from Jamaica. Through Irie Essentials, he continues to honor his culture while offering the global market the true magic and healing properties of authentic Jamaican black castor oil.
